Homemade Biscuits and Embroidery Goodness

My first attempt at embroidery, I would call it a success. I finished this quite a few weeks ago and forgot to post it. I can tell where I would start a session because the threads are uneven. This is just one corner – there are three more, plus pretties between. So… someday I’ll finish?

The next embroidery project I’m working on is cloth napkins. I found some on super clearance at Target, so I got a pack of maroon and one of brown. I don’t plan on making any napkin match. Just a lot of random designs. My first one is birds, I believe this is a 5in hoop.

A few weeks ago we had my parents over for dinner, and I made some biscuits from a package. I jokingly said I made them from scratch, but not everyone caught the joke. Mom asked for the recipe later and I had to come clean. So the next time they came over – I decided I would actually make them from scratch.

They turned out ok. I’m not posting the recipe yet because they didn’t quite turn out perfect. There was a note with the recipe that said you could substitute cheese for the sugar. DONE! But did I use the suggested cheese? No. Did I measure the said cheese? No. I just dumped a bunch of parmesan in the mix and assumed all would be well. Ummm… I probly had to add another 1/8 cup of milk/water to the mix and it was still pretty dry. I don’t use parmesan much, does it just totally dry things up? I also added some garlic… and garlic salt. Ok, now it is all coming together. I really did need more liquids. They were pretty good tho. I’ve been eating them as leftovers all week.

This was my first attempt at biscuits. Any suggestions? Does the dough need to rise? Do I need to knead it like play dough? Should I stop adding random ingredients?

Embroidery, the Journey

Once I realized that embroidery didn’t have to be all flowers and cross stitch wall hangings that read “Home Sweet Home” I decided I should give it a try. Tedious handwork is fun for me (the only thing I have patience for). Plus, I started seeing some really cute projects and wanted to do them too!

My mom found some small table cloth kit, possibly a hand-me-down from one of her quilting buddies, and told me to use it as practice. So here is my first ever attempt at embroidery:

A few weeks ago I was organizing my craft room and opened some tins from my Grandma. I struck gold:

These are just all so cute! What should I make first?!
